Miss Texas Teen International Ward County

Alex Rodriguez applied to represent Ward County in the Miss Teen Texas  International Pageant on April 27-29 at the Selena Auditorium overlooking the Corpus Christi Bay. Alex was chosen from a large bid and given the title of Miss Texas Teen Ward County. Alex said, "I just applied and didn't think I would get chosen. I was really surprised, they picked me!"

Alex participated in Miss Monahans and the Miss Permian Basin Fair & Exposition Scholarship Pageant in 2011. She won 4th Runner up and Miss Photogenic at the Miss Permian Basin Fair. Alex will meet up with Ross Padgett, Permian Basin Fair Pageant Director, again in April. Mr. Padgett has offered to help her prepare for Miss Texas Teen International Pageant.

Alex and her parents will leave on April 26, 2012 to prepare for the pageant. Alex will participate in activities with the other contestants. Alex stated, "I want to thank Mrs. Burnett (Chamber of Commerce Director) and the Monahans Ambassadors for their help. They gave me a donation to help with the entry cost and other fees for the pageant."

Alex has chosen teen bullying as her platform for the pageant. She has titled it B-U-TIFUL which equals "To be sure of yourself and not to be afraid of judgment." Alex is supporting a non profit organization called "Make Beats Not Beat Downs." Alex wants to start a "Make Beats Not Beat Downs" program at Monahans High School. She wants to visit schools all over Texas and spread the word about MBNBD.

"Make Beats Not Beat Downs" is dedicated to presenting alternative help to bullies and the bullied youth through all aspects of music. Through partnering with some of the most talented musicians nation wide, they vow to make sure that bully victims have a voice. MBNBD and these dedicated musicians are here to say, “We, like you, have had enough. We're going to stand up for you. We're going to stand up for each other. Who's with us?" "Make Beats Not Beat Downs" will focus on youth helping youth. MBNBD knows that every kid and every young adult has the ability to be empathic with their peers. This is about kids becoming their own movement in their own communities.

Miss Teen Texas International was founded in 1985. The pageant differs from others Alex has participated in because it focuses on the girl's platform and how they will promote the platform all around Texas.  Contestants compete in 4 areas of competition: Interview (40% of score), Evening Gown (20% of score), Fitness Wear (20% of score) and Fun Fashion Wear (20% of score).  The winner of the Miss Teen Texas International Pageant will receive a prize package valued at more than $15,000 and the chance to represent Texas in the Miss Teen International Pageant.

Alex is raising money for her trip. To donate, go by the Chamber of Commerce and pay $25 to have a good luck line in the program for the Miss Teen Texas International Pageant. $20 goes to Alex and $5 pays for the cost to print the line in the program. The deadline is April 5, 2012. For more information call the Chamber at 943-2187.
